Wellsville is the second largest town in Franklin County, Kansas. It was established in 1870 and was named for a construction engineer on the new railroad. For twenty years the town was known as the the 'Bluegrass Capitol of the World.' Underneath that bluegrass lay oil, which was discovered in 1915 and is still produced today. The settlers brought many talents that are still seen in the residents of the town. It is the home of Chely Wright, a famous country singer.
